Frequently Asked Questions
Our Mission Statement
Hardwood To Go's goal is to make shopping for lumber on the internet simple and fun. We never compromise on the quality of our wood or the net tally, so all of your woodworking projects will be rewarding and cost effective. You can expect the best customer service available on the internet today.
Why buy from Hardwood To Go?
1) Purchasing Power-- You will receive top quality lumber and moldings at great prices, because we are large volume direct importers of exotic lumber. We also purchase large volumes from domestic sawmills.
2) Selection and Quality-- Your premium material will be hand selected from millions of board feet of inventory.
3) Customer Service-- We work really hard to make sure you get the boards you need for your project.
What are you prices based on?
Our lumber is priced by the board foot. Our Grade A Ipe Decking is sold by the lineal foot. Our moldings are sold by the lineal foot.
How do I calculate board footage?
[thickness(in inches) x width (in inches) x length (in feet)] / 12
For example, if a board measures 4/4 x 6" wide x 5' long then the following calculation applies:
(1" thick x 6" wide x 5' long) / 12 = 2.5 board feet
Note: The board footage of our packs is calculated prior to surfacing and straight line ripping!
What are the widths and lengths of your packs?
Your CRAFTpaks, PROpaks, and COMMONpaks will be supplied with good width and length. CRAFTpak lengths will be from 4"-12" in width and 4'-8' in length. PROpaks and COMMONpaks will be filled with longer lengths and similar widths.
What is S2S(surface 2 sides)?
This is how all your CRAFTpaks are sold. Each board goes through a planer that creates a smooth surface on each face of the board.
What are 13/16", 1 1/16", and 1 13/16", etc.?
These fractions are the finished thickness of each board. A board finished to 13/16" comes out of a 4/4 (1 inch) board. A board finished to 1 1/16" comes out of a 5/4 (1 1/4" board). A board finished to 1 13/16" comes out of an 8/4 (2 inch) board. The following applies to all of our CRAFTpaks, PROpaks, and COMMONpaks:
4/4 finished to: 13/16"
5/4 finished to: 1 1/16"
6/4 finished to: 1 3/16"
8/4 finished to: 1 13/16"
10/4 finished to: 2 3/16"
12/4 finished to: 2 13/16"
16/4 finished to: 3 13/16"
What is the difference between Flat Sawn and Quartern Sawn lumber?
Flat Sawn boards are characterized by a cathedral grain that runs the length of the board. Quarter sawn boards should have mostly straight grain.
Do you have a minimum order size?
Our minimum for a custom quote is $250.00 per order before shipping. 20 BF is the minimum for our click and buy products available on our site.
What grades of lumber do you ship?
The lumber we ship is an FAS quality product with Select and Better widths and lengths. We sell Common grade lumber in our 100 board foot COMMONpaks. Our Common is more of a kiln out or sticker stain out rather than a true common grade.
Where will you ship?
We currently ship only within the continental United States.
How will I be charged for shipping and handling?
Shipping and handling is free on our 20 BF CRAFTpaks anywhere within the continental United States. Otherwise, the cost of shipping your lumber is not included in the pricing on the site. We will notify you with the cost of shipping after your order has been placed. Your credit card will be charged for the lumber and the cost of shipping only after you respond to this confirmation. Also note that price quotes for shipping via common carrier are based on the information you provide. If any of the information you provide is inaccurate (i.e. that we will be delivering to a business address versus a residential address) then we will charge your card for the shipping overage that we incur.
How will my lumber arrive and which carriers do you use?
Your lumber will come neatly packaged in corrugated cardboard and clear wrap. Larger bundles may be steel banded to additionally secure the package. Your lumber may be banded with blocks and protected with plywood depending on the specie. We ship smaller bundles(8' and under) via UPS. All other orders are shipped via common carrier/LTL. Trust us, we'll find the cheapest rate we can!!!
