Tree DataMakore trees are reported to be very tall, with average heights of 120 to 150 feet (36 to 45 m), but may reach 180 to 200 feet (55 to 60 m). Boles are straight, well formed, and are usually clear of branches to about 100 feet (30 m). Diameters are reported to average about 48 inches (120 cm), but can be as high as 10 feet (305 cm).
Sapwood ColorThe sapwood is whitish or pale pink in color, and is clearly differentiated from the heartwood. It is usually 2 to 3 inches (5 to 7.5 cm) wide.
Heartwood ColorThe heartwood varies in color from pink to rich red-brown, or pink-red to blood red and red-brown. The wood is reported to resemble close-grained mahogany or plain-sawn Sapele.
GrainThe grain is generally straight, though it may be interlocked. Interlocked grain produces an attractive mottled figure, occasionally with darker streaks. Figured material is reported to exhibit a very striking moire or watered-silk pattern.
TextureTexture is commonly uniform, and varies from medium to very fine.
LusterThe wood is reported to be naturally lustrous, which adds to its beauty.
OdorThere is no characteristic odor or taste. (Source--Woods of the World Pro Version)
